New Boag Advert

19 02 2009

A friend of mine sent me this link to the new James Boag Draught beer ad.

I needed to watch it twice before really appreciating it.

What I like about this is not only is it well executed, but it ties the content story back in to the brand proposition (i.e. Boags is better due to the pure water used in the brewing process) in an entertaining way.

Bushfire Housing Website

11 02 2009

**Update 4pm 12/2/09**

The media has picked up on this initiative with The Age, SMH and Sun Herald all running stories, and NineMSN adding links within their articles.

We have built a site to assist people and government agencies in coordinating those in need of Housing due to the 800+homes affected in the Victorian Bushfires.

We’ve spoken to many of the government agencies involved in the relief work, and they are right behind this initiative.

With the phone lines running hot, there is a need for a website with data capture to assist in the logistical efforts to connect those in need with those who can help.

Go to http://bushfirehousing.org/ to offer your home as a refuge, or at the very least send it out to your contacts so that they can send it to those they know who need . want a place to stay whist their lives and homes get rebuilt.

Google Powermeter

google-1

Interesting initiative by Google – empowering people to measure their daily power usage by appliance to help them understand what is burning the coal the most so they can adjust their behaviour for the betterment of their financial bills and the overall global environment.

In Demo at the moment, and requires the installation of “Smart Meters”, but overall a tremendous idea and one I’d sign up for!

On the flip side, there is no limit to the amount of personal data that Google will soon be storing on each and every one of us (who subscribe) with the influx of useful widgets and tools like iGoogle, Google Latitude, Google Powermeter (in the near future) and many other Google tools aimed at saving us time, effort, stress, money and so forth.

Quintessentially Australian

10 02 2009

For me, and many others, this sums up what it is to be Australian.

In the wake of the Victorian Bush fires in the last few weeks, this shot was taken of a CFA (Country Fire Authority) member (they’re made up of full time professionals and volunteers) helping out a mate.

Awesome stuff.

Makes one very, very proud to be an Australian.

Now go and do your bit whether you live in Australia or not:

Please help those people in need. Click here and donate now to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

My StumbleUpon Site of the Day

9 02 2009

Long gap between my last and this one, work has been crazy flat out!

However, this evening I did three StumbleUpon’s and actually hit the back button to this second one as I though it was really good!

Ultimate Flash Face” – (http://flashface.ctapt.de/)

The ultimate Police Sketch Artist tool, to visually identify that criminal!

Good fun as well for a short time, but a lot more useful I think for Police organisations to instantly get that all important criminal face sketch done….simply get to a internet ready computer or devise and sketch away.

Here is my attempt at three Sputnikers melded into one.

They say the first 48hours is the most important – this should help!

Google Latitude

5 02 2009

So Google Lattidue has launched – a little quietly, but I caught some Radio announcers talking about it today.

**Update – actually, as I write this SBS World News has a full story on it, so a little louder than I first though**

See here and try it out…

YouTube introduction video

YouTube privacy tips video

Basically allows you to see via Google Maps where your friends are at any given time.

They of course need to be subscribers to the system, and enable you to view their location (easy privacy controls are available).

But still…I can see some instances of contacts (or girlfriends/boyfriends) being caught out with the “I have a headache” and being located at the beach after forgetting to set their privacy settings!
